APK Safety Checklist: Ten Checks Before and After You Install
A reusable ten-point checklist for any APK, from the five pre-install checks through the five that only observation can answer.
This guide covers an app you install yourself — download the latest ak47sports apk (v1.6, Android 5.0+, free, no registration) AK47 Sports APK download page or go straight to the Android install guide.
Why a checklist rather than a tool
A scanner answers a single question: does this file match a known threat. A checklist answers a sequence of questions, and its value is that it works for files no scanner has ever seen. Work through it in order and stop at the first answer that fails.
The ten points, split before and after install
| Stage | Check | What you are looking for |
|---|---|---|
| Before | Source | A publisher you can name, not a mirror |
| Before | Checksum | A published hash that matches the file |
| Before | Signature | A signer consistent with that publisher |
| Before | Permissions | Nothing in the stop-the-install tier |
| Before | File details | Size and version consistent with a reference |
| After | Storage writes | Files where you expect them, and nowhere else |
| After | Network activity | Traffic you can explain, not unexplained connections |
| After | Offline behaviour | A graceful message rather than a crash |
| After | Permission revocation | The app degrading rather than misbehaving |
| After | Device changes | No unexpected software, settings or accounts |
The five pre-install checks, in order
1.Name the source
A place you can name can be audited later; an anonymous mirror cannot, and it can change the file at any time.
2.Compare the checksum
A matching hash proves the file is the one the publisher published, and it proves nothing beyond that.
3.Compare the signer
The certificate should stay consistent with the same publisher across versions, and a change of signer is a change of author.
4.Read the permissions
Refuse a build that asks for accessibility, SMS or the ability to install other packages without a stated reason.
5.Check the file details
Size and version should be plausible against a known reference rather than merely present.
The five post-install checks
- Look at where it writes, because an unexpected directory is an unexpected behaviour.
- Watch the network for a day, since runtime connections are invisible before installation.
- Try it offline to see whether it degrades politely or fails hard.
- Revoke one permission to learn what the app treats as essential.
- Review the device afterwards for anything you did not install.
Frequently asked questions
Worth knowing: Post-install network monitoring for the first day catches behaviour that no pre-install scan can predict, because runtime connections are invisible before the app runs.
