How a UFC event is structured

An event is a single running order rather than a set of separate broadcasts. The order is decided in advance by bout significance, and each fight follows the previous one without a fixed start time, so delays accumulate through the night. A card of fourteen fights is common, and the final three or four are the main card. Understanding that the sequence is fixed but the clock is not is what makes the timing predictable enough to plan around. For comparison, a football broadcast is simpler to schedule because one match fills one 90-minute slot, while a professional wrestling event follows the same two-tier pattern as a UFC card.

Event types and how they differ

Numbered events and Fight Nights run to different rhythms.

How to find the fight you want

  1. 1.Read the running order before the guide

The bout order is published before the event and tells you which segment a fight sits in, which is the information the guide does not carry.

  2. 2.Work backwards from the main event

The main event is the last fight of the night. Counting backwards gives a rough estimate of when earlier fights will begin.

  3. 3.Search the guide for the event name

Cards are usually listed under the event name rather than the fighters, so searching for the event finds the broadcast when a fighter's name does not.

  4. 4.Expect drift as the night goes on

A fight that goes the distance, or a stoppage in the first minute, moves everything after it. Guide times are estimates once the card is underway.

What a card listing cannot tell you

  • Which segment of the card a given channel is carrying, since preliminary and main cards are frequently on different channels.
  • Whether a fight has been removed from the card, which often happens in the days before an event.
  • The exact start of a specific fight, because the running order is sequential rather than clock-based.

Frequently asked questions

What time does a UFC event start?
Usually late afternoon or evening in the venue's local time, with prelims running two to three hours before the main card. Across time zones, that frequently places the main card after midnight in Europe.
Why is the main card on a different channel from the prelims?
Because the two segments are often distributed under separate arrangements. Searching the guide for both segments rather than one event entry finds them.
How long does a UFC event last?
Four to six hours from the first preliminary fight to the end of the main card, depending on card size and how many fights go the distance.
Does the app carry UFC events?
No. It plays the channels and playlists you load. Which events appear depends on the playlist and on the rights held in your territory.

Worth knowing: A UFC event is a single running order of up to fourteen fights, so the guide entry for the card covers several hours and the fight you want can be anywhere inside it.
