What uninstalling actually removes

An Android install occupies two things: the package itself, under the app directory the system manages, and a data directory holding everything the app has written, including favourites, playlists and settings. Uninstalling deletes both, which is why the operation is complete by design rather than leaving orphaned settings behind. What it does not delete is anything outside those two locations, and that is where the leftover files usually are: the APK file you downloaded is an ordinary file in your Downloads folder and survives the uninstall untouched.

The three removal steps

1. 1.Remove the app

   Open Settings, then Apps, then the app entry, then Uninstall. On Android TV, the equivalent path is Settings, then Apps, then the app entry. Grant any confirmation the system asks for.

2. 2.Delete the downloaded APK

   Open your file manager, go to Downloads, and delete the APK file. Leaving it there means a stray tap can reinstall the app later, which is usually not what someone uninstalling is trying to achieve.

3. 3.Switch off the install permission

   Return to Settings, then Apps, then Special app access, then Install unknown apps, and turn off the permission you granted to your browser or file manager. It was only ever needed while an install was pending.

How to confirm it is gone

Before you uninstall: what is worth keeping

• The M3U playlist URL or file you supplied yourself, if you added your own, because that is the one piece of configuration you cannot reconstruct by reinstalling.
• Any channel identifiers you favourited by number, written down if the list is long and you intend to reinstall later.
• The playlist file itself, if you loaded it from local storage, since the app may be the only place it was ever saved.
