Why a remote cannot reach some controls
A remote produces directional movement between elements that declare focus, and a control drawn for touch may not declare it. The button is then visible and unreachable. This is a property of the interface a sideloaded build draws rather than of the television, which is why it appears on one build and not on another.
How to get a sideloaded app usable on a television
1.Reach it from settings when the icon is missing
An app without a leanback entry still runs, and launching it from the app list is the reliable route.
2.Add a pointer if the remote cannot reach it
A remote with a pointer or an air mouse can click elements that directional navigation cannot reach.
3.Free memory before watching
Television boxes run close to their limits, so closing other apps reduces restarts during playback.
4.Improve ventilation and lower the quality
Heat throttles decoding on small boxes, and a lower level both decodes faster and generates less of it.
